Stephen Potter is a researcher in the Centre for Assistive Technology and Connected Healthcare (CATCH) in the School of Health and Related Research at the University of Sheffield. He has a BSc degree in computer science from the University of Durham, an MSc in applied Artificial Intelligence from the Universities of Aberdeen and Paris (V), and has completed a doctorate at the University of Bath, where he investigated the role of AI in engineering design. He worked for over a decade in Artificial Intelligence Applications Institute in the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh, combining academic research with technology transfer projects. He then spent some time working with various commercial and industrial partners as a technology transfer project manager at Lancaster University, before joining CATCH in 2015.
His research interests lie in the development of inclusive and sustainable practices for the design and evaluation of digital services for healthcare. He has authored or co-authored over 50 academic papers across a range of application areas. He is currently involved in projects to codesign healthcare robotics and communication aids and to establish sustainable living labs for driving healthcare service innovation.
